    Making Sushi at Home

    By Emiko S.
    Staff Writer

It is Valentine's Day! Did you buy or make anything for your lover? I think making sushi is a great idea for Valentine's Day. It might be a little bit late, but you could try it not only on Valentine's day, but also for any other party! Today, I will introduce how to make sushi very easily at home.

First, you need to get a sushi making plastic case at the 100 yen shop. They carry 2 types of cases. One is for two so you can make two pieces of sushi at once, and the other is for five, so you can make five pieces of sushi at once. Just pack rice that has been sprinkled with sweetened vinegar (you can buy it at the supermarket) or even normal rice into the case and place the case upside down on the dish. Tap the case lightly and the formed rice comes out. You have made two or five pieces of sushi rice at once! Wonderful! After that, you just place sashimi on the top of the rice. Not the only sashimi, you can put anything you like such as corn-mayonnaise, avocado, cheese, tuna, boiled egg, fishcakes and more. If you need wasabi, put wasabi on the top of the rice before placing the sashimi. Or, you don't have to place ingredients one by one. You can just make the sushi rice and ingredients separately. People can take a sushi rice and top with any ingredients they like and enjoy them! It sounds good! Now, you can make sushi rice five pieces at once, it is so easy to have sushi party at home!

    Direction to vinegared rice
・2/5 cup of sushizu (vinegar for sushi, you can get it at local supermarket.)
・3 cups (450g) of grain rice steam cooked.
1.Pour sushizu into steamed rice and mix well.
2.Leave it for a while to be cool.

    Sashimi
You can get many kinds of sashimi at local supermarket. Be sure to get the freshest sashimi. You may have to cut the sashimi into slices sized to fit on top of the sushi rice.
