Shrimp and Broccoli Chowder

It's cold outside. Coming in from the cold, don't you feel like eating a heart-warming hot meal? I would like to introduce a simple and typical Japanese warm soup dish made at home. We call it "cream stew". I know it's a Japanese-English word. Japanese people cook it often at home. It tastes like chowder and it is easy to make. We get the roux at the local super market. You only need a pan to cook it the same as curry mix. Today, I am going to tell you about shrimp and broccoli cream stew. It's very delicious; you should try it!

Ingredients: (serves 4 people)
1/2 pkg chowder mix
12 pieces of shrimp, shelled
1 bunch of broccoli, cut into bite sizes
1 whole onion, thinly sliced
1 whole potato, washed, peeled and cut into bite sizes
1 and 1/2 cups of water
1/2 cup of milk
1/5 cup of white wine
1 garlic clove, minced or finely chopped
1-2 tbsps grease

Directions:
1.Boil the broccoli until almost fork tender.
2.Heat the pan, put the grease and garlic into the pan and begin to saute.
3.Add the shrimp and white wine. Put the rid on the pan till shrimp gets red.
4.Remove the shrimp.
5.Using the same pan, leave the grease in the pan, add the onion.
6.Fry onion till it becomes soft and light brown.
7.Add potato and fry them.
8.Pour the water into the pan on high heat until it boils, then medium heat and simmer appropriately for 10 minutes.
9.When potato gets soft, remove the pan from the heat, stir the chowder mix into the pan. (Break the chowder mix into cubes before you add into the pan.)
10.Add shrimp, broccoli and milk into the pan. Stir well.
11.Served with rice or bread.

You may also add frozen vegetables, corn, carrot, chicken, sausages or any types of ingredients you can find in your refrigerator. Frozen shrimp, or seafood of any kind can be used for this dish as well.

Enjoy!
