This art festival is one of the largest in the world and is held once every three years in the area called Echigo-Tsumari, Niigata prefecture. The concept is “Humans are part of nature.” This year became the fifth since the festival started in 2000. This year, the festival started on July 29th (Sunday) and ended on September 17th (Monday.) The canvas is the whole area. The artists from around the world greatly make use out of the nature from the area and create their unique artworks. You not only see the art, but also “experience” it. For example, there is an old traditional house called “Dream House.” It was made to dream. Each room is painted red, blue, green, and purple. You wear pajamas that the artist made and sleep in a box. (It looks like a coffin!) When waking up in the morning, you write about your dream. It’s difficult to explain art, so you should at least check the images. More than 360 artworks await you!

Many visitors surely help all the people in the area enjoy becoming a part of this modern art festival now and then. In Niigata, Fuji rock festival annually takes place in summer.
