I visited the Pokemon Center and Anpanman Museum in Sendai and I would like to introduce them to you today.
First of all I am going to introduce you to Pokemon. He is one of the most famous Japanese animated cartoons. Pokemon is a media franchise published and owned by the Japanese video game company, Nintendo. They have some role-playing video games by DS and a Pokemon Trading Card Game which is a collectible card game with a goal similar to the Pokemon battle in the video game series. Players use Pokemon cards, with individual strengths and weaknesses, in an attempt to defeat their opponent by "knocking out" his or her Pokemon cards. Pokemon is very popular in Japan, but I’m sure Pokemon is popular all over the world.
The Pokemon Center is a specialist store for Pokemon merchandise, and can be found in seven locations- Sapporo、Tohoku (Sendai), Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka. You will find a wide range of original Pokemon merchandise and the most popular items at the Pokemon Center. If you are looking for Pokemon merchandise, the Pokemon Center is the place to go!
The Pokemon Center Tohoku opened last winter. They have one activity to do and that is to invite the children who were victims of the Sendai Earthquake. Also, some Pokemon characters visit some Preschools, Nursery Schools and elementary schools which were damaged by the Sendai Earthquake. They play games, dance, sing Pokemon songs and make some Pokemon paper crafts with the kids to the children’s delight. It is called “Pokemon with You!” and they plan to continue doing it.
Each Pokemon Center has a Pokemon Trading Cards Game School and Pokemon Trading Cards Battle Competition. This is the schedule in August at the Pokemon Center Tohoku: 2012.08.25 (Saturday) 10:00〜17:00 Pokemon trading cards battle competition “Kerudeo Cup.” 2012.08.28 (Tuesday) 10:00〜17:00 Pokemon Trading Cards Game School for beginners.
Next I would like to introduce you to the Anpanman Museum in Sendai. Anpanman is another very famous animation cartoon in Japan. He is especially loved by two-three years old children. There are so many Anpanman goods around there, so you may see them at Toys”R”Us and some local stores.
Let me explain about Anpanman first. Anpanman is the main character of the animation, whose head is a bun made by Uncle Jam. His name comes from the fact that he is a man with a head made of bread (Japanese: pan, a loanword from Portuguese meaning "bread") that is filled with a red bean paste (Japanese: called anpan). He doesn't need to eat or drink to sustain himself and has never been seen eating. It is believed the bean jam in his head gives him all the sustenance he needs. His weakness is water or anything that makes his head dirty. He regains his health and strength when Jam Ojisan bakes him a new head and it is placed on his shoulders. Anpanman's damaged head, with Xs in his eyes, flies off his shoulders once a new baked head is made for him by Uncle Jam. Anpanman came to life when a shooting star landed in Uncle Jam's oven while he was baking. He has two special attacks called: An-punch and An-kick (with stronger variations of both). When Anpanman comes across a starving creature or person, he lets the unfortunate creature or person eat part of his head. He also has super hearing in that he can respond to anyone that calls his name out in distress from anywhere in the world.
The Anpanman Museum was built in 2011. They have an Anpanman Park where kids can play and an Anpanman Mall which has many restaurants and shops where you can buy lots of Anpanman merchandise. They also have some activities where we can make some crafts and an Anpanman Show several times a day. You can see Anpanman, Baikinman and other characters there. You will have a good time with your kids at this Anpanman Museum.
Enjoy your summer!
