The 200th Edition of The Insider!

By Nao H. Kauffman
Chief Editor

We are proud to announce the 200th anniversary of the“The Insider.” Its history began in October of 2004. We have been providing foreigners, especially the military families on Misawa Air Base, and the Misawa and its surrounding local communities with great amount of helpful information. We regularly cover the topics and information people want; for example, the Misawa International Ice Festival, Nango Jazz Festival in Summer, Nanbu Tourist Information from spring to fall, Takko Garlic Festival, Rokkasho Salmon Festival, and winter ski and snowboard resort information (which comes in the next edition) as well as other local festival information, cultural and historical topics from Japan. In 2009, we reformed our homepage at http://insidermisawa.web.fc2.com/. You can start by finding the information for Nango Jazz Festival in 2009 and check all the rest of The Insider contents from our archives. For the previous other editions’ top articles, please send us your request to editor.insider@gmail.com. We would be happy to email you the copy of PDF document. You can also check the list of the past top pages here. Without our loyal sponsors’ and avid readers’ support and understanding, we could not have made such a remarkable achievement. We are willing to put in more effort in order to make our paper more interesting and beneficial to you. Your comments and suggestions are very vital to our organization, and we look forward to hearing from you!

On The Note to The 200th Edition of The Insider!

By Keiko H. Johnson
Staff Writer

It was just few years ago when I walked in the office for a job interview with the company. Our small establishment,  that could easily missed by visitors, was located within the housing area by the POL gate at the time.  The smell of the kerosene heater that tickled my nose when I first walked in the office had stopped bothering me as the years went by.

I left the office and limited my work only to working at home as a writer as I moved away from Misawa. Having worked with The Insider as an editor and a writer for a few years, I must say it has never been a smooth ride in order to manage and to distribute free papers twice a month to many parts of Japan .  Our motivation and our drive to keep publishing papers only came from responsibility and pleasure to send messages to those honorable readers.

Most importantly, I cannot deny such a great accomplishment stands upon their tremendous dedication and effort that the staffs have been making. The company had expanded its success into online publication a few years ago. With inviting new graphic designers to the company, its publication is making vast improvements.

Although I am now writing at the opposite side of the earth, it has been a privilege for me to be a part of the company on their 200 th edition. Without the support given by the local community, and that of the readers, the publication would have never reached its success.  I would like to congratulate you on reaching 200 th edition and hoping for a better growth of the publication toward the future.
