Aomori Prefecture Wakuwaku Child-raising Supporting Shops Project

If you have a baby or infant, you know how much it is helpful that a shop or a facility has a changing table, nursing room, and hot water service. Further more, you would even feel lucky to get discount just for bringing your small one to the place. For the past three years, Aomori Prefecture Child and Family Support Center has been promoting local stores and facilities to make such services available to families with children. The project is called “Waku-waku Child-raising Supporting Shops.” You can locate supporting stores by looking for a sign on the entrance of store. As of February 1, there are 1059 stores are registered in this prefecture.

Stores that offer discount and bonus points are called “niko-niko stores.” Regrettably, lots of customers, Americans and Japanese, have missed out services without knowing about them. In order to receive them, it is required to bring a child under 18, and show the coupon available here as you make payment. The coupon can be used multiple times. A pregnant woman is also entitled to the services. Tell that you are pregnant in Japanese: “Ninshin shite imasu.”

Those stores with nursing rooms, changing tables, strollers etc. are called “hono-bono stores”. Whether the place provides those services is a key factor when babies and infants' parents choose where to go for shopping. In recent years, thankfully, major facilities and shopping centers are registered as“hono-bono.”

The followings are only some examples of stores supporting the child-raising supporting project in Misawa and the surrounding area. Please note that the stores and their services may be subject to change.

概訳：あおもり子育て応援わくわく店事業

お店や施設に、おむつ交換台、授乳室、お湯のサービスがあるというのが、赤ちゃんや幼児がいれば、どれだけ助かるかご存知だろう。さらに、子供を連れて行くことで割引を受けられれば、ラッキーだと思うだろう。過去三年間、青森県（事務局、青森県子ども家庭支援センター）は、地域の店や施設が子供のいる家庭にそのようなサービスを提供することを促進している。その事業は、「あおもり子育て応援わくわく店事業」と呼ばれている。店の入り口のマークを探すことで、協賛店を見つけることができる。２月１日現在、加盟店は1059店にのぼる。（日本語でのインターネット検索は こちら)

割引やポイントサービスを提供している店は、「にこにこ店」と呼ばれている。残念ながら、日本人・アメリカ人を問わず、顧客の多くは、サービスを知らないでいる。サービスを受けるためには、18歳未満の子供を連れて行き、こちらで得られるクーポンを支払いの際に見せる。クーポンは何度でも使える。妊婦もサービスを受けられる。日本語で、「妊娠しています」と言おう。

授乳室、おむつ交換台の設置、ベビーカー貸し出し等を行っている店は、「ほのぼの店」と呼ばれている。赤ちゃんや幼児を持つ親にとって、そのようなサービスがあるかどうかは、どこにショッピングに行くかを決める場合など、重要になってくる。最近は、ありがたいことに、主要な施設やショッピングセンターは「ほのぼの店」に登録されている。
